Tanning Beds and Diseases

Post by rogerwimmer » Fri Aug 08, 2014 1:48 pm

Doc: My girlfriend frequently uses tanning beds because she feels she looks better with a tan. I told her that you mentioned a while ago that people can pick up a variety of diseases from tanning beds. She doesn’t believe me. Can you help? I would like her to stop using them. Thanks in advance. - CL

CL: I have posted an answer to this question before, but I’ll do it again because it’s important.

First, I only have a Ph.D. I’m not a Medical Doctor, so I asked my wife (Darnell), who is a dermatologist. She said that it’s entirely possible to contract a variety of diseases from tanning beds including, but not limited to, warts, genital warts, herpes, and other STDs (not to mention the increased risk of skin cancer). She said tanning beds are “disgusting” and she sees many young people (mostly teenage girls and young women) who have “picked up” a variety of diseases and skin cancer from the tanning bed use. There ya go.

But, your girlfriend might not believe my wife, so tell her to read some of the articles in this search. I think she may also say, “disgusting” after reading some of the articles. Click here: Crud from tanning beds.

Here is a link that focuses only on tanning beds and skin cancer.
