Hot Songs Countdown

I recently started a Hot 6 at 6 request type countdown. This is the first time I've done a segment like this, can anyone give me any advice? Since it's the hot songs, they are still coming up in their regular slots throughout the day, but to me, it'd sound weird if we played one of the songs at 5, where it would naturally fall, then again at 6 for the specialty show.

Am I over thinking it, or should I continue to closely monitor how close the songs are together?

Maybe you need to adjust your criteria.

If you're a station that already plays the top 40.. which is usually the top 12.. over.. and over.. and over.. and over again.. then the "Hot 6 @ 6" sounds neat.. but isn't that what you're doing the rest of the day?

Maybe look for stuff way at the bottom of the pack.. stuff that maybe just started to climb the charts, and is currently down there in the bottom 40, but rising fast.

We don't do the classic Top 40 country format. My rotation for the Hot songs are only once every 4 hours. Once a shift. I also stay away from the too pop, too rap sounding country. We play a lot more Indy/Texas/Red Dirt artists which is why we came up with this feature to give these artists a spotlight, like we do our Texas artists.

When I was in radio I liked to do a segment called "out of the arcives".......I would play top 40 songs that people have not heard in a long time ...I would get some cool requests like spice girls,old usher ect..... try that ... Hope I helped
